The collaboration with the Lula Washington Dancers, featuring songs from Blanchard’s 2009 album Choices, was somewhat less successful in the big room; TV screens don’t really cut it for interpretive dance.
Here’s a tip, LAist…if you’re going to have someone review a show that contains dance, at least make sure that they have somewhat of an idea of what the hell they’re talking about. I’m pretty sure that the Lula Washington Dance Theater is definitely not “interpretive dance”.
The most offensive thing about this to me is the fact that someone even thinks that’s still a viable term when really it means nothing. All dance is or should be interpretive on some level, but very little of it could be categorized as only interpretive dance.
Just got way better. I always like to do some kind of intensive, just to keep the energy and inspiration flowing and I just found out that I was accepted to participate in Rosanna Gamson & RG/WW’s “The Whole Story”, a week long workshop dedicated to progressing works in progress and developing performance.
Basically, I’m really excited (albeit a tiny bit nervous) and already having a dance nerdgasm over Rosanna’s resume :)
